The chief executive at scandal-plagued Japanese vehicle maker Mitsubishi Motors apologised to shareholders today for repeated recall cover-ups and plunging sales.

Japanese vehicle maker Mitsubishi is to cut about 6,200 jobs from its global work force and receive €3.4bn in funding from the Mitsubishi group and other investors in a revival plan, the company said in Tokyo.

Japanese lorry maker Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation today announced it was recalling as many as 45,000 vehicles because of a faulty wheel part which police are investigating in connection with dozens of accidents, including a fatal one.
