THE IRISH boxing team have taken their preparations for the world championships to a new level at a training camp in France.

The fifth European Union Boxing Championships resume at the National Stadium in Dublin today with twenty quarter-final bouts down to be decided over the course of two sessions beginning at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Featherweight Carl Frampton created Irish boxing history tonight following a clinical victory over Latvian Denis Zabins in the quarter final of the European Union Championships at the National Stadium in Dublin.

JOHN JOE JOYCE (St. Michael’s, Athy) faces a showdown with reigning light welterweight champion Aodh Carlyle at the National Stadium tomorrow with a place on the Irish team for the EU boxing championships the prize.
