A WOMAN councillor was forced yesterday to vacate a seat on a powerful committee and be replaced by a male colleague – due to gender legislation.

EDUCATION Minister Mary Hanafin has asked her junior minister Síle de Valera to investigate the exclusion of a Catholic brother and sister from a special school bus which is to be provided to the Protestant-managed Villiers School.

AN investigation was demanded last night into the public funding of a school bus that excludes Catholic students attending a Limerick Protestant school.
