AMERICA’S prison population grew by 2.9% last year to almost 2.1 million people, with one in every 75 men living in prison or jail.

Crime in the US has dropped to the lowest level since records began 30-years-ago, official figures showed today.

ABOUT one in every 37 adults in the US was either imprisoned at the end of 2001 or had been at one time, the US government has reported.

More Americans went to prison or jail during the Clinton administration than during any past administration.
