Given the welcome influx of more tourists to Ireland, it is encouraging that our cities are getting cleaner. As today’s report from Irish Businesses Against Litter (IBAL) will show, 13 major urban areas are now better than the European average. 

THE National Roads Authority (NRA) has called for the country’s road maintenance budget to be more than doubled to ensure real action to tackle litter on tourist thoroughfares.

TALLAGHT has been declared Ireland’s most improved town for tackling litter, as opposed to a year ago when it was declared a black spot.

THE litter watchdog which branded parts of Cork’s north side as “blackspots” is planning to target those areas for clean-ups next year.

BUSINESS leaders in Cork have appealed that rates not increase next year because many have suffered a severe drop in trade due to a the general economic downturn and work on the main drainage project.
