A roadside explosion and three separate car bombs – one near the prime minister’s party headquarters in Baghdad – killed at least 16 people in Iraq today.

A suicide car bomb detonated near Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi’s party headquarters today, killing two police officers, one civilian and injuring 25 other Iraqis, police said.

Prime Minister Ayad Allawi’s spokesman said today that the government was determined to hold January 30 elections on time despite calls by Sunni Muslim politicians to delay the balloting for six months because of deteriorating security.

A roadside bomb went off early today as a US military vehicle drove by a street in central Baghdad, slightly injuring two soldiers.
