BOSTON Scientific employees here will be given a clearer indication today on the scale of job losses at its Irish operations.

THE proposed €18 billion takeover of Guidant by Johnson & Johnson is not expected to impact on the creation of more than 1,300 new jobs planned independently by the companies in Cork and Clonmel.

Johnson & Johnson, the world’s biggest maker of medical devices, may announce that it’s buying defibrillator maker Guidant Corp on Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the situation.
