Galway city could lose one of its greatest landmarks through the sale of the Great Southern Hotels, it was claimed today.

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday discounted the possibility of the Government retaining ownership of the Great Southern Hotel group, saying the sale of the semi-State was the best option.

FINE GAEL Kerry senator Paul Coghlan has called on the Government to clarify its position on the future of the Great Southern Hotel Group and to end the uncertainty among staff and visitors.

EAMONN McKEOWN, the chief executive of the Great Southern Hotel group, has stepped down from his position.
