Dangerous high-speed driving across North Cork in a stolen car at around 11am forced gardaí and people working on the roads to jump to safety, a court has heard.

A mother who lost two sons in a car crash in East Cork has appealed to motorists to take care on the roads in the run-up to Christmas in order to prevent other families from experiencing the “life sentence” of losing a child.

On a day when safety appeals were made to coincide with the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, two more Irish people lost their lives in car crashes.

THERE will be an extra 1,100 gardaí on the streets next year, helped by a 10% rise in the force’s budget.
