All but two of the 100 Garda stations set for closure are to shut by the end of this month, according to Garda management plans due to be announced in the coming days.

The Garda Commissioner has said overtime pay for the force must remain but that a number of discretionary allowances could be subsumed into general pay for Garda members.

The General Secretary of the Garda Representation Association has said he is somewhat reassured after talks with the Minister for Justice on the Jerry McCabe issue this evening.
