A Government taskforce must be set up to tackle violent crimes against gay people following a number of attacks in the capital, it was warned today.

Gardaí have launched a massive crime prevention campaign aimed at encouraging members of the gay community to report any homophobic incidents.

GAY people are being blackmailed by their former partners for sums of up to €10,000, a senior garda revealed last night.
