The FTSE 100 backed down from Thursday's record highs as the pound rebounded on reports that the EU was working on proposals for a post-Brexit trade deal with Britain.

ALMOST €34 million has been collected as a result of the State’s long-running investigation into the controversial Ansbacher deposits.

The Revenue Commission has reached a settlement of €7.5m with South African bank FirstRand, the owner of Ansbacher (Cayman) Ltd.

THE South African parent of Ansbacher (Cayman) Limited, the bank at the centre of offshore tax evasion uncovered by the McCracken Tribunal, said yesterday the bank settled for approximately 25% of the amount sought by the Government relating to the costs of an inspection into the company.

South African banking group FirstRand says it has agreed to pay a settlement to Irish authorities for a probe into one of its private banking units.
