A late rally gave Wall Street a modest advance today after a lacklustre employment report left investors wondering about the pace of US economic growth and inflation.

Microsoft Corp said the sale of its stake in Expedia Inc to USA Networks Inc has been delayed as a result of the television company's deal with Vivendi Universal.
