Stocks wobbled and closed mixed for a second straight session today after a dip in consumer confidence countered better-than-expected quarterly results from companies such as Eastman Kodak Co.

Wall Street ended a volatile session mixed today as investors welcomed new government data showing a reinvigorated industrial sector but wrestled with a jump in oil prices that briefly sent crude futures above US$67 (€55.63) per barrel.

Eastman Kodak Co., the world’s largest photography company, said it would close processing labs in Spain and Norway and scale back one in Switzerland, cutting 313 jobs, as demand for traditional photos declines.

A larger-than-expected drop in durable goods orders intensified Wall Street’s concerns about the US economy today and sent stocks sliding for the second day in a row. Technology issues again suffered the largest declines.
