Irish people have spent more than €1.7 billion on renovating their homes in the last four years.

There has been a cautious welcome to plans by AIB to help build 5,000 new homes in Dublin.

Independent research commissioned by the construction industry has claimed that 45% of the price of a new house goes to the State in taxes.
