PALESTINIAN gunmen yesterday shut down central Gaza offices registering voters for a parliamentary election due in July, saying they were protesting at losses by the ruling Fatah Party in last week’s municipal ballot.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has decided to hold presidential and parliamentary elections with six months, according to the secretary general of the Palestinian Cabinet.

Israel is heading for its lowest election turnout since 1973.
