PROTESTS are to be held next week by west Cork residents angered by planning changes they believe could lead to further population falls in parts of west Cork.

BEARA Chamber of Commerce and west Cork Irish Farmers Association (IFA) members will today hand in a submission to County Hall, objecting to Cork County Council’s proposals to adopt guidelines on housing in scenic areas.

THE mayor of Cork county, Cllr Noel Harrington, claims (September 4) that a Special Scenic Landscape designation would make it easier for people on the Beara peninsula to get planning permission.

PLANS to earmark a west Cork peninsula as a “special scenic landscape” could lead to mass migration from the area.
