A study of about 600 elderly patients admitted to six Cork hospitals found 25% had dementia of whom almost two thirds had not been previously diagnosed, with obvious implications for care.

Six sites have been shortlisted as possible locations for a €300m hospital in Cork City to facilitate the merger of two of the region’s busiest hospitals.

The HSE is reportedly planning to move all acute services in the southern region to just one hospital in Cork city.
