2011 was World Veterinary Year and veterinarians not only celebrated 250 years since Claude Baurgelat was authorised to open the first veterinary school in Lyon — considered to be the beginning of veterinary science — it was also the year that rinderpest was declared worldwide eradicated.

IT is a very sorry state of affairs when a bigot like Ian Paisley finds ready apologists for his injustices and tyranny in the pages of the Irish Examiner (Ryle Dwyer, March 24).

ON the first anniversary of the jailing of the Rossport Five it is important to reassert that the people of Ireland, especially Mayo, continue to campaign for Shell to be sent to sea and for a renegotiation of the Corrib gas deal to benefit the people of Ireland and not Shell and their friends in business and government.

WHEN we were first awarded An Taisce’s Green Flag, our school felt very proud and honoured. This is a prestigious award similar in status to the Blue Flag award for beaches. Schools all over Europe work hard for the Green Flag.
