Bravery is one of those easily described, but generally underestimated, qualities most of us hope we can find, when — if — the testing moment arrives. None of us can be sure we would find the courage needed to do something extraordinary, something utterly selfless to try to rescue a stranger from a life-threatening situation, so those who have done just that deserve society’s thanks and recognition.
