It is four years since Kieran Behan expressed the hope that his historic appearance at the Olympic Games in his hometown of London would act as a springboard for the sport of gymnastics in Ireland. Signs are that it has certainly helped.

Success for the green, white and gold as Irish male gymnast Kieran Behan has secured a place at the 2016 Rio Olympics Games.

Today’s Irish hopes for medals at the European Games, gymnast Kieran Behan and cyclist Caroline Ryan, have finished outside the top three in Baku, with Behan coming fourth and Ryan at one stage leading the women’s road race before dropping out.
