Tech firm HP has confirmed it will cut between 3 - 4,000 jobs worldwide over the next three years.

Irish tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch yesterday said he would file a claim against Hewlett-Packard for $150m (€134m) in damages over allegations the US company made about his role in the acquisition of his software company Autonomy in 2011.

Fears have emerged for some 4,000 Irish workers after global IT company Hewlett-Packard announced a second wave of job cuts that will see up to 35,000 employees lose their jobs globally.

The decision on whether the planned 16,000 redundancies at Hewlett-Packard will affect its Irish operations in Leixlip will be made over the next few months, according to a company spokesperson.

The war of words between Tipperary-born entrepreneur Mike Lynch and Hewlett Packard over the allegations of accounting irregularities at Mr Lynch’s former company, Autonomy, escalated in advance of the HP annual shareholder meeting yesterday.
