Ford have announced a new five-year scholarship with UCC to commemorate 100 years in Ireland.

The great grandson of Henry Ford has hailed as "hugely meaningful" a visit by some of his family back to the ancestral home of the industrialist in Ballinascarty in West Cork.

On April 17, 1917, a new Irish company was registered which would change forever the industrial and economic landscape of Cork City in particular.

In just a few months it will be exactly 100 years since Henry Ford registered his company, Henry Ford & Sons in Ireland.

A three-year €20,000 renovation project on the ancestral home of carmaker Henry Ford has been completed and the West Cork cottage is to open to the public next month.
