Bradley Wiggins’ remarkable year came to a perfect conclusion last night as he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in the city he cruised to Olympic glory this summer.

Ireland’s Paralympic team took a break from the medal trail yesterday after six positively greedy days here in London but the pursuit will resume today when Mark Rohan and Jason Smyth attempt to double up on golds claimed earlier this week.

Jason Smyth today qualified in first position for tomorrow's final of the 200m T13 final in the Paralympic Games.
