THERE had been genuine fears there would be a shortage of greyhounds to satisfy all the extra racing in Dublin in the build-up to Christmas.

The general media world, which normally pays scant regard to the greyhound sector, suddenly discovered there is such a sport yesterday as a result of yesterday morning’s story in the Irish Examiner concerning the loss of meetings at Shelbourne Park this week due to the recent flooding problem.

THE weather is playing havoc with the greyhound schedule with three meetings lost last night and one of tonight’s meetings already cancelled.

With many of the track stars of the past two seasons already retired to the breeding paddocks, it is good to hear of the reverse procedure with the brilliant Serene Rumble set to return to action next week in the first round of the valuable Vodafone Grand Prix at Harold's Cross.
