A HSE audit has revealed that about 34,000 X-rays around the country were caught up in a backlog and had never been examined by a radiologist.

A LEADING hospital is risking a repeat of the Tallaght X-ray scandal after it emerged it is failing to send out vital medical documents to GPs.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has called on the Government to clarify reports there are thousands of letters referring patients for X-ray in Tallaght Hospital in Dublin lying unopened.

The HSE says a review will be carried out to determine why almost 58,000 x-rays were not read by a consultant radiologist at Tallaght Hospital over a five-year period.
