THE Munster finals of the Irish Mixed Foursomes get under way at Monkstown on Saturday, with Nenagh facing Newcastle West in the first of the semi-finals at 9am.

FRIDAY was a red letter day for both West Waterford Golf and Country Club and young Séamus Power when it was announced that he had been selected to play for his country in the Boys’ Home Internationals against the cream of young golfers from England, Scotland and Wales at Royal St David’s Golf Club in Wales from August 5th to August 7th.

IT isn't very often that an Irish sports person sees off the best efforts of rivals from 57 other countries, but that's what happened at Royal Musselburgh yesterday when Cian McNamara, a student at Crescent College Comprehensive and a member of Limerick Golf Club, maintained his three-stroke overnight lead to become the first Irish player to capture the R&A Junior Open Championship.
