Great Britain's Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah were awarded the 2012 European Athlete of the Year prizes at the European Athletics Awards Night in St Julians, Malta, last night.

Helsinki will host the European Athletics Championships for a third time in 2012, which will also be the first occasion the event switches to a two-year cycle.

The 124th European Athletics Council meeting starts tomorrow in Barcelona, with an announcement scheduled to be made on the host city for the 2012 European Athletics Championships.
