Former Green Senator Deirdre de Burca has claimed the Greens only agreed to support Maire Geoghegan Quinn as Ireland's EU Commissioner in return for Miss de Burca getting a job in the Commissioner's cabinet.

Green Party leader John Gormley has hit back at criticism of himself and his party by former Senator Deirdre de Burca, insisting her remarks are "entirely without foundation".

The Green Party has today insisted that it remains united in the wake of the resignation of high-profile senator Deirdre de Burca today.

Senator Deirdre De Burca has resigned from the Green Party and the Seanad.
