Cork County Council will not make any of the 130 staff employed by town councils redundant when it takes over their running on June 1.

Nearly €4m is to be spent refurbishing vacant local authority homes in Co Cork this year — in a bid to put a dent in the housing waiting list.

It will be summer at the earliest before any major work gets under way to make safe a toxic waste dump in Cork harbour, city officials have said.
