Riot police have escorted masked contractors as they removed wood from two contentious loyalist bonfire sites in Belfast.

Belfast City Council is seeking a new contractor to enforce its controversial bonfire policies after the last one quit in the wake of this week's violent disorder.

Firefighters were summoned to an incident involving a bonfire as huge blazes were lit in loyalist communities across Northern Ireland marking the height of the parading season.
