A mother of three from Co Louth is warning people to be aware of the danger of Japanese Akita dogs - after she was brutally mauled by one.

This is the gaping wound six-year-old Limerick girl Abbie Cuddihy suffered when she was attacked by a large dog while out playing.

The recent attack by an Akita dog on a small child in Limerick follows a similar attack in Sligo just over a year ago.
