U2 and Fleetwood Mas last year helped the Live Nation firm that operates the 3Arena in Dublin to double its pre-tax profits to £5.16m (€6.19m).

The owners of the 3Arena, concert giants Live Nation is trying to block plans by Citywest Hotel to stage concerts at its convention centre.

Sell-out gigs by pop superstars, Beyonce and Ed Sheeran at the 3Arena last year were not enough to prevent pre-tax profits at the firm that operates the venue declining by 50% to £2.5m (€3.6m).

Joseph Duffy was one of European MMA’s rising stars when he made the brief switch to professional boxing in 2013. Now 28, he has taken the UFC by storm since his first fight last March and he will headline Fight Night 77 in Dublin’s 3Arena on October 24.
