Departure Lounge: Celebrate St Brigid and Irish womanhood this Bank Holiday

Brigid’s Awakening Festival, Co Roscommon sees the installation and illumination of Ireland’s largest St Brigid’ installed and illuminated from Feb 1 to 29 in Tarmonbarry.
As part of Brigid 2024: Dublin City Celebrating Women, Experience Glasnevin is hosting a themed tour celebrating some of the remarkable Irish women buried there who helped shape Irish history and culture.
Visit the graves of Countess Markievicz, Maud Gonne MacBride, Elizabeth O’Farrell and Hanna Sheehy Skeffington, amongst others, to learn their contributions to modern Ireland.

Running all weekend, including Bank holiday Monday, visitors can join a special gallery trail celebrating St Brigid.
Exploring themes of hospitality, wisdom, and warfare shared by Brigid, this interactive trail is a fun and free way to celebrate Lá Fhéile Bríde.
On Monday, February 6 (1.30 – 3.30pm, free. No booking required) keen artists can join a drop-in workshop in the gallery’s Long Room looking at the theme of hospitality, and at 2.00 pm there’s a free tour of the collection focussing themes of women, nature, and mythology, and provide a unique way to celebrate St. Brigid's Day.
On February 3rd, Killorglin celebrates St Brigid with its Biddy’s Day Parade.
Line the streets to watch as Biddy groups from neighbouring townlands proudly march up the main street with a vibrant celebration of music, fire, song, and dance to entertain all ages.
This is followed by dancing and music on the Plaza in Library Place.
Grab your bikes, trikes, scooters and join the Pedal Party and fancy dress spring Parade on February 5.
Guidelines are simple: Decorate your bike and dress as animals or flowers at 11am, for an 11.30am parade through Sallins.
At noon there’s a zero-waste picnic and games, and it’s all free, family-friendly and fun.
