Great savings to bite the Big Apple

ANYONE thinking about a pre-Christmas shopping trip to New York is advised to travel early to benefit from special deals. Tour America, in fact, believe the best savings — up to €200 — can be had by heading west next month on the basis that New York hotels are keen to fill rooms before domestic demand takes off.

It is also more likely to be pleasant during October, with temperatures averaging 18 degrees to allow more comfortable browsing around the shops and sights.

Tour America has put together some deals with it’s favourite hotels in Manhattan, such as €779 for three nights in the Hotel Beacon near Central Park, including flights, hotel, all taxes and charges and a Tour America voucher for an 11% Macy’s discount card. Departure is on October 9.

The company also offers the Wellington Hotel in Midtown for three nights priced at €789, with an October 16 departure.

* BMI, the third largest airline operating at Dublin Airport, is to double the number of services between Heathrow and Moscow from October 26. The additional flights will improve connecting options for passengers flying from Dublin to Moscow on bmi via Heathrow.

Return fares from Dublin are available from €289 including all taxes and charges, as part of bmi’s current ‘Better for Business’ global seat sale, which runs until September 30.

The deal allows bmi to offer onward connections in the Russian Federation on the services of Transaero from Moscow Domodedovo.

* WITH the weak dollar, the present is a good time to discover America, and now it’s easy to find a suitable home away from home in this vast and diverse land.

Holiday-Rentals.co.uk is a company involved in the rental market of private properties throughout the world, but one that has just added a huge number of American homes to its portfolio.

It might just be worthwhile checking out what they have on offer. One can do so by visiting www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/discoverusa to explore these and more American holiday homes.

* THE newly refurbished Bracken Court Hotel in Balbriggan officially opened its doors last week following closure due to a fire last April. The hotel has had a €7 million makeover.

The 66-bedroom four-star hotel has re-opened with a full lunch and dinner menu available. Rooms are available from €75 (B&B), and can be booked on 01 841 3333 or www.brackencourt.ie.

Bookings are also being taken for the Christmas Party season.
