Faraway coach tours

CIE Tours International have added Siberia and Mongolia amongst others as new destinations to the 2008 Europe and Worldwide Escorted Tours and Cruises programme.

The public’s perception of coach touring has changed over the last few years thanks to innovations that include travel to faraway places.

CIE Tours International manager Stan Ryan says: “I think, I hope, we can satisfy the most demanding of clients with our current range of tours.”

Some of them don’t come cheap — think around €4,000 for the high-end tours, but those on a tighter budget can plan on around €2,000 for the America West Adventure. This includes flights, hotels, all breakfasts and some dinners for 15 days and takes in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and Los Angeles.

Closer to home there is a selection of Europe Premium and Supersaver tours, with 46 different itineraries covering everywhere from Russia to Eastern Europe, Italy, Egypt and the Med.

* THINK Carnival and Notting Hill or Rio de Janeiro will spring to mind. But one may not have lived until you have attended the amazing three-week spectacle that is an annual event in Gran Canaria!

The carnival is held in Las Palmas and this year’s event (which started yesterday and runs up to February 9) has an ancient Greek theme.

For those visiting Gran Canaria in the next few weeks, find out more information on www.grancanaria.com

* FANCY a bit of privacy? — Then consider a villa rental specialist. Jamesvillas.ie is just one company with special offers to sun destinations at this time of the year.

Lanzarote should be fine but the weather isn’t always guaranteed as we found out to our cost this time last year. But, we were told, it was just a bad week!

Anyway, James Villas offers total privacy, with sole-use swimming pools, for about €440 (sleeping up to six people) plus flights ex-Ireland at the end of the month. Check out the properties and details of different offers at 1890 943 928 or log onto www.jamesvillas.ie.

* SUNWAY’S 2008 sun programme offers 23 destinations in Europe and North Africa with flights from Dublin, Cork, Shannon — prices starting from €399.

Apart from the introduction of Salou, Sunway has also included a dedicated Azores brochure following on the success of this destination in 2007.

Sunway has also extended their selection of accommodation on four Canary islands — Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura — all hugely popular in the Irish market.
