Here is a selection of events and experiences taking place across the city.

Christmas Parade in Cork

The festive fun in Cork will kick off with the city’s annual Christmas Parade on Sunday, November 15.

The parade, which will bring Christmas characters to life on the streets of Cork City, will take place from 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

The entertainment and festive joy on the evening will include a very special visit from Santa himself, who will do the honours of switching on the Christmas lights and officially launching the festive season in Cork City.

Christmas markets at Bishop Lucey Park and festive hub at the Counting House

Cork City’s Christmas markets will be held in Bishop Lucey Park this year.

The markets will offer festive food, artisan gifts and local products on selected dates from November 20 to December 22. The Ferris Wheel will also return to the Grand Parade, operating on selected dates from November 27 to December 31, excluding Christmas Day.

Families can also look forward to the Family Festive Hub at Counting House Plaza, with creative workshops, circus skills, kids discos, interactive games, and festive entertainment.

Christmas at Elizabeth Fort

Cork City Council and the award-winning creators of The Nightmare Realm will bring Nollaig – A Journey to Believe, a first-of-its-kind immersive Christmas journey, to Elizabeth Fort in Cork City this Christmas.

The historical fort on Barrack Street will be home to a living, story-led journey unlike anything Ireland has seen before, which has been designed to become a long-term Christmas tradition for Cork.

Home to Santa and the residents of Jingle Town, who are quietly preparing for Christmas Eve, the experience will include a walk through the woodland and a bustling town, a workshop busy with craftspeople, a bakery scented with fresh gingerbread, and a cast of distinctive residents.

The 75-minute journey takes place across both indoor and outdoor spaces within Elizabeth Fort and culminates in a personal, unhurried visit with Santa.

The experience will open on Friday, November 27 and run across 18 specially selected nights, up to and including Tuesday, December 22.

Immersive experience at St Fin Barre's Cathedral

Cork’s iconic St Fin Barre’s Cathedral will be transformed from the inside for a new immersive Christmas experience this December.

A new immersive light and sound experience called The Promise will transform the interior of the historic cathedral through projection-mapped imagery, surround sound and storytelling.

The experience begins with the story of St Fin Barre following the River Lee from Gougane Barra and establishing a monastery on the site where the cathedral now stands.

From there, the story moves through themes of Christmas, hope and the promises passed from one generation to the next, with stars, music and some familiar details from the cathedral itself woven into the experience, including an appearance from its famous Goldie Angel.

Running each evening from 5pm to 10pm from December 9 to December 19, the immersive experience has been commissioned by St Fin Barre’s Cathedral as a new addition to Cork’s Christmas calendar, with approximately 20,000 tickets available across its 11-night run.

The experience is being created by Tim and Catherine Mountain, the husband-and-wife creative team behind UK-based Evenlode Productions and Evenlode Films. Cork voices will also form part of the finished piece, including young Cork writers, a Cork actor, and the St Fin Barre’s Cathedral Choir.

On Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12, the cathedral will host A Night Full of Promise, with the choir performing Christmas songs and carols alongside the projections.
