Artist Sheena Wood with her husband Kurt Lyndorff, who built and maintained the Ewe Gardens in Glengarriff. After 30 years of welcoming visitors to this haven of humour, art, and reflection, the couple closed the gates on 31 August. Pictures: Chani Anderson.

In the hills above Glengarriff, where a rushing river carves its way through mossy woodland, a winding trail of sculptures and story is preparing for its final visitors.

The Ewe Gardens, a beloved West Cork treasure for more than 30 years, will close its gates on Sunday as creators Sheena Wood and Kurt Lyndorff step into pastures new. Kurt says, "We are full of ideas for projects, online, writing or as consultants for sculptures, outdoor design and the environment".
