What a Difference a Day Makes: I’ll never beat feeling of my little girl being born

Musician Alex Petcu-Colan tells Helen O’Callaghan about some of the special moments surrounding the birth of his daughter, and considers how becoming a dad has changed him.

The main thing for me in the last few years is the birth of my daughter, Ella, on July 14, 2020.

Labour started for my wife, Kelley, the night before — around 2am. The contractions started coming and we thought, ‘This is it now.’ We’ve only one child so it was a first-time experience, which is nerve-racking. We didn’t sleep that night, but we did rest. We went to CUH about 11am.
