When Siobhán Boyce gave birth to her twins, Dáithí and Micheál, there were few concerns. At 35 weeks, they were early but after 12 days in neonatal care, Siobhán and her husband Mike held them in their arms and carried them proudly out of hospital.

“Then when the boys turned 10 weeks old, they started having seizures,” says Siobhán. “They just stopped breathing. Initially, it was just 30 seconds but then they happened more frequently and went on longer. They were very irritable, constantly crying. They had feeding issues. There was a lot going on.”
