'Another unproblematic icon': Laura O'Mahony welcomes baby boy

Laura shared that her son's name is Freddie John Joe Liam O'Mahony.

Cork comedian Laura O'Mahony has welcomed a baby boy.

She made the announcement on her social media this morning saying that he is already the love of their lives.

Alongside a lovely photo of the new arrival with his parents, O'Mahony shared that her son's name is Freddie John Joe Liam O'Mahony.

The little bundle of joy arrived at 9.19am weighing 8lbs 9oz.

"Our hearts are so full. The love is immediate! The world welcomes another unproblematic icon," she wrote.

The radio presenter and her husband Shane already have two children Alfie, five, and Polly, eight.

O'Mahony shared the news that they would be welcoming a little boy earlier this year.

"I cannot wait to meet you, my son. I am sure you will be sassy like your sister and sparkly like your brother. I am not afraid of your willy this time because Alfie has paved the way for you," she joked to her 17,000 followers.

"We are ready for you my love. Stay safe another little while. I love you so much already that even if you want to play GAA I'll let you BUT if you could be another Eurovision-type baby that would really suit me down to the ground."

She also shared sweet messages to her children, telling Polly that she is "the very best of girls" and how glad she is that her daughter is the only boss babe in the house.

To Alfie, she wrote: "You will teach the smallie to be kind and brave and bold".

The happy news comes just two months after O'Mahony and her co-host Rob Heffernan wrapped on their breakfast show on Cork's Red FM.

The news came after it was announced that Keith Cunningham (KC) would return to the station from rivals Cork's 96FM.

KC left Red FM in 2017 and had been hosting KC and Ross in the Morning with Ross Browne on 96FM.

O'Mahony, a popular stand-up comedian, joined forces with Olympian Heffernan in February 2022 but less than 18 months later their show came to an end.

Speaking after their final show, O'Mahony was emotional but upbeat about the future saying: "That's showbiz baby. It can be fierce rough".

Although she said she would miss the team at Red FM and the listeners, there was "no other decision for me but to leave".

The now-mother-of-three said she would go into the future with her head held high with plans to reinvent like Madonna.

"This is just a change. Happiness and health are everything jobs come and go."
