Sally Foran: The best new beauty releases in May

What is going on in the world of beauty this May?

1. MAC’s new complexion products

I’m a big fan of blonzing (blusher and bronzer in one step) and MAC’s latest complexion launch is designed to strike the perfect balance.

There are three new products; Strobe Beam Bronzelighter, Skinfinish Sunstruck Bronzer and my favourite Skinfinish Colourstruck Blush, specifically shade Velvet Teddy as it’s the perfect blonzing shade. It’s velvety and blurring and comes in 29 shades inspired by some of their most iconic lip hues. Created to add warmth, colour and dimension to the complexion.

  • €34, Brown Thomas

2. Genosy’s ND Cell Neck & Décolleté

I am forever harping on about not neglecting your neck as it’s one of the most overlooked and fastest ageing areas. The skin there is thinner, more sensitive and has fewer oil glands, so without moisturising, it can become crepey, lose firmness, and start sagging. Our necks are also exposed to constant movement and, unlike facial skin, the neck does not adhere directly to subcutaneous tissue or muscles. On average, we look down to check our phones every 12 minutes, leading to a rise in “tech neck”, which causes increased horizontal lines too.

So this neck cream launch makes my heart sing! ND Cell Neck & Décolleté, from South Korean beauty brand Genosys, is designed specifically for the skin on the neck, to lift, firm and deeply hydrate, combining firming peptides, antioxidants and deep hydration, to help smooth fine lines and support elasticity, in a lightweight, non greasy texture.

3. Benefit’s Dream Sheen Brow Glaze

First, we had glazed skin, and now Benefit brings us glazed brows. Its new Dream Sheen Brow Glaze adds a hint of tint and a glossy sheen for effortlessly styled brows. Delivering 12-hour wear, brows are instantly sleek and polished, with buildable tinted payoff, all day shine, and they’re waterproof, humidity proof, transfer proof, smudge proof and non-sticky.

They’re packed full of skin-loving ingredients such as Pro-Vitamin B5 and quinoa to enhance shine and condition brow hairs.

  • Available in three flexible shades — light, medium and dark. €31, Benefit

4. Lisa Eldrige Velatura lip and cheek sticks

I was thrilled when renowned makeup artist Lisa Eldridge launched her makeup range, and the latest addition to her collection is these beautiful Velatura balm dewy lip and cheek sticks. Named after ‘Velatura’, a glazing technique made famous by Renaissance artists as a method of bringing a veil of light and colour to their paintings, they come in six dewy, finely tuned shades that deliver buildable colour for a luminous, natural flush that enhances your skin effortlessly. They nourish with shea butter, which has a high lipid content that mirrors what’s naturally in skin, helping to restore the skin barrier.

5. R&Co Sun Catcher

I first discovered this US haircare brand in TK Maxx, and I’ve loved their innovative products ever since.

Their latest launch, Sun Catcher, is no exception — a Vitamin C-infused mist that protects against damage, pollution and heat styling. It’s infused with skin-loving ingredients such as hyaluronic acid for nourishment and hydration, vegan peptides for fortified strands and improved pliability, goji berry to smooth frizz and tame ends, and elderberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn oils for silky, dimensional shine, all while protecting from UV damage, frizz and heat up to 450°F /232°C.

  • €29, salons nationwide

6. Revitalash Leave-In Hair Mask & Conditioner

Famous for its eyelash-enhancing products, Revitalash is venturing into a new space with its 5-in-1 leave-in hair mask and conditioner. Its innovative multi-purpose formula delivers the nourishing, smoothing and hydrating benefits of a traditional hair mask, with no rinse, heavy residue or extra time required.

Powered by a nutrient-rich targeted blend of ingredients, such as conditioning oils, hydrating actives and peptides, it primes, nourishes and protects hair from environmental aggressors and heat styling, while helping to reduce the appearance of breakage.

7. Dyson Supersonic Travel Hairdryer

Engineered to meet the demands of modern travellers without compromising hair health, Dyson has finally launched a travel-friendly version of the iconic hairdryer. It has global voltage compatibility, adapting to your country of choice and is 32% smaller and 25% lighter than the full-sized version, carry-on compatible and fits easily into handbags and luggage. With intelligent heat control technology it prevents extreme heat damage, while its airflow is precisely engineered to dry hair quickly and evenly.

8. Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Under Eye Powders

Inspired by lighting that beautifully illuminates the under-eye area on set, Laura Mercier has created a new powder to bring that same awakened, lifted look to everyone. Instantly set, smooth, extend concealer wear, and brighten with light-reflecting pearls, plus peach and pink pigments to colour-correct for an instant eye-awakening effect. Available in translucent, soft pink (my favourite) peach, golden, and rich peach.

  • €35.65, Look Fantastic
