Between seasons: What to wear for the tricky time between summer and autumn

No one likes being between anything: jobs, lovers, the latest Emily in Paris instalment.

It’s a bit of a buzzkill. So is being between seasons: a style semi-colon connecting us to our next six-month fashion fix.

Although wardrobe refreshers are nice to have, the beauty of being between seasons is not having to make a new purchase.

Summer's ballet flats, colourful trainers (expect Nike to have a moment), and waistcoats translate well into the cooler months, as does the Gen Z favourite – wide-leg jeans, especially in raw denim.

Print-wise: stalwart stripes, leopard print, and checks also provide a canny cost-per-wear ratio.

Thirsting for some wardrobe newness? Raise a glass to burgundy–the colour of the season. Warm and full-bodied, expect this robust hue to win big across all wardrobe staples including handbags, like Arket’s practical waist pouch.

When the temperature does drop, opt for one of the brand’s temperature-regulating and super luxe cashmere t-shirts.

Here’s the thing: if weather gossip is right, we could feel some heat well into September which puts autumn/winter trends like snug roll necks and glossy leather goodies on pause.

In the meantime, I’ll be getting the most out of ankle season and my fisherman sandals while the temperature allows with cropped trousers and a light tweed blazer (very #countrycore).

Admittedly, they’re not exactly fall adjacent. If like me, however, you demand a summer do-over; then, they’ve got another solid month of wear time before I dust off my boots.
