FRNCH Lobelia multistripe handmade cardigan €139

Last week we paid a visit to the stunning Powerscourt House and Gardens in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, for the launch of the new fashion season at Avoca. Bringing plenty of newness to our wardrobes for spring/summer 2024, we loved the colourful tailoring and prints at Never Fully Dressed, the timeless pieces by FRNCH, Fabienne Chapot and Selected Femme, and the easy-to-wear kaftans by Theatre D. There was plenty to explore in terms of menswear too with brands including Barbour and Selected Homme. Also launching this season is a new pendant by MoMuse founder Margaret O’Rourke in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. This oval, 9kt gold pendant features three upwards-facing arrows, each representing the tri copies of chromosome 21. The pendant will sell exclusively at MoMuse and Avoca Kilmacanogue for €185 of which €125 will go directly to Down Syndrome Ireland.

Print It!

If you know a mother (like this writer) whose phone is about to spontaneously combust due to the number of unprinted photos on it then the super cute Fuji Film INSTAX Mini 12 camera will make for a brilliant gift this weekend and beyond. In the age of digital photography, it’s the perfect antidote to having hundreds (thousands?) of images stored on a phone or in the cloud that will never see the light of day. It’s easy to use — simply twist, point and click to get fun credit card-sized images within 90 seconds that you can stick up on the fridge for all to see. With its cool bubbly design and pastel colours the kids will enjoy using it too — so mums might actually end up in the photos for a change. €90 at 3 Stores nationwide and online.

Read It!

Jan Brierton, a freelance fashion stylist and mother, built a strong social media presence during the pandemic when she began to write poetry expressing her experience of life in lockdown.

The result was What Day Is It? Who Gives a F*ck — a book of irreverent, relatable poems about the state of life and loss back then. Just launched this Thursday, Brierton’s second book of poetry Everybody Is a Poem: Midlife in Rhymes is in a similar vein and the perfect read for anyone going through the ups and downs of menopause, midlife, mental load, relationships, loss and self-acceptance. Combining rhyme and illustration, it delves into the brightest and darkest moments of our lives in a way that is poignant, funny and totally relatable. New Island Books. €9.95.

When it comes to gift giving, Chanel really is a byword for luxury so what better to gift your beloved mum this Mother’s Day than a beautiful gift from the brand at Brown Thomas Grafton Street, Dundrum and Cork? There’s a focus on exquisite fragrance, modern makeup looks and ultra luxurious skincare products to give your mum a lift.

We love Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle Secret Look Pouch (RRP €196) containing three beautiful products for the perfect natural look; or how about a limited edition set containing the Chance, Chance Eau Fraiche and Chance Eau Tendre perfumed hand creams (€75)?
