Desire Lines: New occasionwear, and Valentine's treats
Some of what we're loving this weekend

Caroline Kilkenny has just launched its SS24 range which includes beautiful dresses and separates that make for perfect occasionwear.
Some of our favourites include the ‘Hazel’ and ‘Ginger’ dresses which feature feathers — either on the pockets or sleeves — as well as the ‘Logan’ dress which features ombre sequins, flip sleeves and a gathered detail at the front.
Pictured here is the ‘Aria’ dress (€365) and matching ‘Jules’ coat — a wrap style coat in a floral jacquard fabric (€460).
Originally designed in response to stockists’ requests for a coat for mothers of the bride, the style has proven hugely popular for communions, confirmations and race days too.
- Stockists include MacBees in Killarney, the Country Boutique in Ennis, and Carmel’s Fashions in Ballina as well as Arnotts and other boutiques countrywide.

The perfect gift for craft (and wine lovers) is an evening of pottery and painting in Waterford’s Medieval Museum on Thursday.
Waterford has a long history in the wine trade and visitors will be given the opportunity to handle genuine medieval pottery including pieces from ancient wine jugs.
Guests can then enjoy two glasses of wine (non-alcoholic wine options also available) while decorating their own pottery wine mug to their own taste.
Their creation will then be fired and ready for collection after the event which is beginner-friendly and all about having fun.
- Tickets, €40.

Whether passion, heartbreak, flirtation, or infatuation, the complex emotion of love has resulted in more than its fair share of musings across literature, art, and music.
When it comes to poetry, many of the greatest names — from Shakespeare to John Donne, Christina Rosetti to Emily Dickinson — have written verses which still resonate with lovers today.
Edited by Gaby Morgan, with an introduction by bestselling author Joanna Trollope, Poems for Love is the perfect Valentine’s read and a testament to the enduring power of love.
- Easons, €15.40.

Dyson just has a way of creating cult items and their latest innovation — the Airstrait — looks set to join the ranks of the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer in terms of customer appeal and social media mayhem.
The innovative new Dyson Airstrait straightener is a wet-to-dry straightening tool that uses air instead of hot plates to straighten hair without damaging it.
The Airstrait uses two high velocity, precisely angled, ‘blades’ of air to dry and straighten hair of all types to a smooth dry finish — thus simplifying your hair care routine without the need for multiple steps and tools.
- €499.99.

The flat shoe, and ballet-inspired designs in particular, hit the SS24 runways last autumn and look set to be everywhere this spring from the high-end to the high-street.
We’re looking to Simone Rocha, The Row, Tory Burch, and Le Monde Béryl for inspiration.
If your pocket doesn’t quite stretch to designer brands then check out Zara, & Other Stories, and Next for more affordable versions.
Red and black are key colours — whether in soft pliable leather, velvet, patent leather, or embellished mesh.
Camper currently has a style called ‘Casi Myra’ — timeless and comfortable flats in a wide range of colours.
- Above are Dune’s diamante embellished mesh ballet flats (€105) available in black now, and in red from mid-March.
