Inspiration

Summer’s bohemian calling card isn’t everyone’s glass of ice tea. Its freewheeling filigree, although seasonally on-brand, admittedly lacks lifestyle suitability. Those whose tassels have been whipped by a Westerly wind or who’ve been the only employee donning a prairie dress to a board meeting know the score all too well.

This is where the modern classics come into their own. Take, the polka dot print, for example. Having made its fashion debuted in the late 1920s thanks to early adapters like Miss America, and Minnie Mouse, the pattern gained added gravitas when adopted by Christian Dior for his 1940s “New Look” collection.

With Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe sporting the spots in the 1950s, the polka dot officially cinched its star status. Want to be spotted for the right reasons? Just connect the dots.
