‘Sunset’ shadows are a perfect summer switch-up for eyes. The shades involved – pinks, peaches, reds and corals – are so universally flattering because they so often feature in foundation undertones, creating warmth and radiance.

Orange is peach’s intense cousin. Blue eyes, in particular, really pop when contrasted with orange shadows as blue opposes orange on the colour wheel.

Hailey Baldwin showed how good brown eyes look in red, wearing Make Up For Ever Metallic Artist Shadow in ‘Magma,’ €20.50 at mufe.ie, at Cannes.

This trend looks far from natural but it is tough to go wrong, shade-wise. Peaches are always pretty, as anyone with TooFaced’s best-selling Sweet Peach palette can attest, and even a tangerine like NARS Matte Eyeshadow in Persia, €25, is a great choice, enhancing your own eye colour and brightening whites.

Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Palette, €49

Rihanna’s latest palette is perfect for getting this look. With shades like ‘Cumin Get It’ terracotta, ‘Quicksand’ papaya and ‘Spice Trip’ burnt Sienna, you can go for the bold single shadow-eyes Ri-ri favours or combine satin, matte and metallic finishes for a contoured look.

This palette was made for smoky eyes, as suggested by the plumy imagery on the lid. Red, brown or classic grey smoky looks are a cinch and the hazy purples will have you ahead of one of next season’s biggest trends.

The formulas best suit normal-to-oily types as while the satin shadows have the same creamy texture as Fenty’s Killawatt duos, the others are more powdery and contain long-wearing ingredients that may patch on dry eyes.

Tip: Copy the delicate orange wings seen at Delpozo’s Spring/Summer 2018 show by dusting the lids with ‘Ca$ablanca’ peach-gold and using a very thin liner brush to extend ‘Quicksands’ just past the eyes’ outer corners.

Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat Eyeshadow Palette, €32 at debenhams.ie

UD’s Naked palettes are beloved for there work-friendly nudes and this mini version offers a wearable but current choice of ‘scorched neutrals.’

‘Wild Thing’ orange looks great worn all over the lid. ‘Heist’ and ‘Strike’ are warm matte-browns that contour beautifully. The pigment quality of all the shades is strong, and you only need a little to get a good dose of color.

These shadows blend easily and wear well throughout the day, without any obvious fading or creasing. Their texture is more powdery than creamy, so the shimmer can highlight lines and creases.

Tip: Brown-eyed girls may prefer Urban Decay’s ‘Beached’ Palette, €34, which contrasts brown and coral shades with a turquoise that looks makes lovely liner for your eye-colour.

Huda Beauty Coral Obsessions, €28 at brownthomas.com

Much like Taylor Swift and her Swifties, Huda Kattan’s constant engagement with online fans is key to her success.

Her ‘Obsessions’ palettes are edits of endlessly-discussed shades and each is both wearable and flattering.

Coral Obsessions is small but packs in a lot of highly-pigmented colour. If you already own Huda’s Desert Dusk Palette I don’t recommend buying this too, the DD shadows are a bit more blendable than those in her minis.

Tip: Apply the fiery orange-metallic with a damp brush to the centre of the lid for round, ‘doll’ eyes.

NYX Professional Makeup Full Throttle Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Colour Riot,’ €12.75

This quad boasts a beige with noticeable shimmer, a warm matte-brown, a satin burnt-orange and a matte burgundy. Each shade is blendable, long-wearing and saturated with colour.

Tip: Save the shimmer for the lid. Taking the shimmer into the contour or corners can highlight any wrinkles or creases when the pigment is not finely-milled so keep that beige and in an area that won’t highlight what you prefer to hide.
