INSPIRATION

Kaftans are made for coastal getaways.

Loose-fitting, billowing printed tunics bearing artisan accents are rarely city-worthy. Until now.

Increasingly the favoured hot-weather garment has developed a more urbane persona, segueing from beach to street with a few canny tweaks.

New kids on the kaftan scene like Pippa Holt have successfully married traditional handmade techniques with high fashion silhouettes that are equally cool by beach or by bar.

Why bare all when you cover up?

STYLE HACKS

Look for vertical panelling details or pattern to balance volume. Add a belt to balance proportions.

City girl? Take it to the streets with a pair of Converse and a love-worn leather jacket. Swap out your summer jacket and wear open over jeans and a camisole.

Feeling the cold? Layer over a crisp white shirt or polo neck in the colder months or make like kaftan queen Pippa Holt (Insta @pippa_holt_kaftans) and layer yours with a cosy jumper and Gucci loafers.
