Trend of the week: Hats

A heads up on the hat styles worth wearing, says Annmarie O'Connor.

Trend of the week: Hats

Hats. We take them very seriously in this country.

Gainsborough, box, turban, skull, cocktail or cloche – an occasion just isn’t an occasion without the appropriate headgear. With wedding and race season well and truely upon us, we've compiled an edit of millinery styles worthy of a hat tip.

STYLE NOTES

HEART-SHAPED FACE

A medium crown and medium-sized brim creates balance between the forehead and the chin.

LONG FACE

Low brims or hats with wide brims and short snug crowns break up the length of the face.

ROUND FACE

Hats with a small brim and height at the crown or slightly angular styles add structure to the face.

SQUARE FACE

Curvy hats or those with height at the crown soften and add length to the face.

OVAL FACE

Most hat styles suit this well-proportioned face shape.
