Trend of the week: Trench coats

INSPIRATION
The trench coat is tailormade for Irish weather.
Practical and put-together, the cotton-gabardine classic has earned the name ‘closet classic’ for a good reason. That said, a little bit of devilment never hurt anyone. This season sees a bit more joie de vivre to balance those April showers.
Think roomy silhouettes in fun fabrication (gingham, anyone?) with amplified accents from buckles to straps and conceptual pocket detail adding a touch of seasonal frisson.
NOTES FROM THE CATWALK
Colourful – worn in saturated ombre hues with a summer dress and matching Birkies.
Utilitarian – worn obi-belted as a dress in a head-to-toe hue.
80s redux – worn oversized with augmented shoulders, banker stripe shirt, culottes and pointy satin boots.
Femme fatale – worn oversized and shoulder slung with a screen siren wiggle dress.
